San Carlos River Basin, northeastern Costa Rica
The San Carlos river basin is located in the center of the province of Alajuela, located in the northeast of Costa Rica (Figure 1), between the geographical coordinates 10°30"00 northern latitude and 84°30"00 western longitude. The San Carlos has a total area of 2620 km2 until its confluence with the San Juan River, at the border with Nicaragua in the north of the country. The San Carlos basin can be considered an experimental site of the Observatory of Water and Global Change (OAGC) of the University of Costa Rica (UCR) since 2013.
